Health resets, exhilarating exercise programmes and relaxation on a super-stylish island

JOALI BEING on Bodufushi island is a secluded retreat island devoted to wellbeing. Come for personalised, healing journeys for self-discovery and renewal, with programmes that focus on four wellbeing pillars - mind, skin, microbiome and energy – and aim to reconnect you with yourself and nature so you leave feeling weightless and transformed. With exceptional wellbeing facilities, top chefs, stunning villas and inspiring spaces, this is retreating at its most luxurious.

our Reviewer Mary Lussiana says:

At JOALI BEING they want their guests to take something home with them.  I would say the opposite, that I left something with them – a few kilos, several worry lines and a lot of stress’

Queen of Retreats says:

‘Come here to slow down and listen to nature. The silence is broken only by wind whistling through the trees, the lapping of waves and birdsong. Blissfully, this is an easy place in which to switch off all your devices – there are musical instruments and games in your room instead of a TV’

Experiences

Wellbeing programmes focus on an array of needs, including deep relaxation, stress recovery, digestive reset, weight management and anti-ageing, and there is also a couples programme to strengthen your bond. Programmes can also be created from scratch to your specific needs – whether that’s hormonal balance, better sleep, mental clarity or an immunity boost.

Go back to playtime at B’Kidult, where generations can come together to play, have fun, and take part in wellbeing sessions together. Activities for all ages include making natural self-care products with resident herbalists and exploring the power of sound healing with experienced practitioners.

The island has an endless choice of experiences including cryotherapy, several types of sauna and steam, a sound healing forest path, and a watsu pool. There’s a huge gym complete with Pilates reformer.

Dip in and out of educational workshops, a comprehensive library, wholesome culinary courses and insightful mindfulness seminars around the island. Yoga and meditation sessions are available, and you can book curated journeys with world-renowned visiting practitioners throughout the year.

Marine adventures include scuba diving courses for beginners, marine conservation for experienced divers, kayaking, SUP, wake-surfing, underwater adventures in a semi-submarine, sailing alongside dolphins and island-hopping.

Spaces

The retreat island is built according to biophilic design principles so you can feel closely associated with nature. These designs evoke harmony and balance, eliminate negative vibrations, and enhance energy flow.

Such gorgeous, relaxing spaces include: AREKA, with hydrotherapy, Finnish sauna and steam rooms, ice grotto and vitality pools; SEDA, a sound therapy hall; KAASHI, the hydrotherapy hall; CORE, a high-tech gym; a fully equipped art studio; and an over-water meditation deck with majestic ocean views.

B’Kidult is a multi-generational playground, with sensory playgrounds, mud kitchens and a well-equipped professional kitchen for little chefs.

The large, open-plan and interactive dining space FLOW features three signature kitchens. The tropical beach sanctuary MOJO is an ideal lunch and sundowner spot. But you can eat wherever you wish – from a private sandbank to the Turtle Treehouse.

Of the 68 villas, 33 are beach villas and 35 are water villas, all with private pools, a choice of one to four bedrooms and well-thought-out living spaces.  You can expect your own butler, king or twin beds, air conditioning, non-allergenic pillows, a wellbeing bar and an outdoor rain shower.

Sustenance

The culinary arts at JOALI BEING focuses on an earth-to-table initiative, promising ingredient traceability and offering fresh, locally harvested foods that support small farms and are sustainably sourced.

MOJO is the island’s tropical beach sanctuary, located on a three-layered sundeck and offering an ideal spot for lunch and sundowners by the pool. In the evening it serves Japanese fare designed by menu from Michelin-star chef Yamamoto Hidemasi. It is also home to SAI tea lounge, where you can book a tea celebration with a tea sommelier.

FLOW is the open-plan interactive dining space, featuring three signature kitchens: Su serves ocean-to-table pescatarian cuisine, Plantae offers nourishing vegetarian and vegan fare, and B’Well features the JOALI BEING signature menu with meat and poultry options.

Take a seat by the waves at Ocean Sala Dining and savour perfectly grilled premium cuts of meat and seafood, including specialties like Wagyu beef, Japanese scallops, and lobster and tuna from Maldivian waters.

Ideal for up to six, Teppanyaki is a private dining experience offering Joy of Weightlessness - artistry at the grill, with astonishing views of the Gate of Zero. Other bespoke options range from a private sandbank to an inviting turtle treehouse.
